England's Kevin Pietersen scored a brilliant century 115 runs against New Zealand on the 1st day of the third test match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Thursday, 5th June 2008. Pietersen hit 14 fours in his 115 runs inning off 223 balls.

England lost the toss and invited to bat first, slumped to 86 for 5 in swinging conditions, before Pietersen turned his team's fortunes around with a belligerent 115, his 12th Test century. A crucial sixth wicket partnership with wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose, who Scored 67 runs. Both men fell to the Iain O'Brien with the new ball.

For New Zealand, Iain O'Brien and Kyle Mills took 4 and 3 wickets respectively.

England were 273 for 7 at the stump of day 1 with Anderson and Broad on 1 and 15 runs respectively.
